Discover the inner Light,

Listen to the inner Music,

And be your Self!

In life, there are always two “games” going on

  • The Outer Game—Proper techniques, proper presentation, etc. The goal is to do everything perfectly. All of the mechanics of the performance that we study, drill, tweak.
  • The Inner Game—the desire and effort to express your potential to the fullest.

The Inner Game is going on at all times! Each person carries a reservoir of potential. These are our natural abilities, capacities and knowledge. We develop this potential when we face situations that challenge us to perform at new heights of achievement.

Draining from this potential is Interference—elements such as anxiety, fear of failure, self-doubt. These make us feel stressed, and our muscles respond by tightening up. Such interferences also distract and scatter our attention and make us lose interest in what we’re doing.

Exercise

Think about the most painful and unpleasant experience you’ve ever had. You may still have a vivid picture of what happened, the tension in your body. List the conflicts you had. Remember the end result. Think about your best experience. It could be a performance, rehearsal, singing in the car…whatever. What was going on in your mind? Did your mind stop you in the middle and say, “Wow, this is great! I’m not making any mistakes!” Probably not. You just did it.Combined, our potential and the interference which drain to create our performance, famously formulated as P=p-I (Performance = potential – interference)

The Inner Game reduces interference to maximize potential

Our top level of expressiveness comes by reaching “relaxed concentration,” a state in which technical issues are reflexive and untroubling, and our inner music can pour out through our focus on its meaning. That state proceeds from the three Inner Game skills:

Awareness—The most fundamental skill is the capability to be aware what is happening without being judgmental (especially the wrong stuff). We ask “what went wrong?” and then overcompensate. We try too hard.

Will—The direction and intensity of your intention; setting a goal, moving toward it and resetting it as we approach it. You decide what you want to do/be, how to get there it and gradually shape the plan closer to the ideal.

Trust—Allows simple awareness to take place without bombarding yourself with criticisms and judgments. It also allows you to explore the Will approach. It takes trust in our inner selves in order to tap into our potential and perform at our best.

Wishing you a musical week!

Allow Yourself the Vision of Joy and Feed into It Daily

We have feelings about our needs (like for food, air, water, etc.).

When needs are satisfied we feel joy. We have feelings about our wants (for love and affection, even for things like a new car).

When wants are satisfied we feel joy. Our emotions constantly push us toward joy.

When we use our anger well we increase our odds of getting what we want and feeling joy.

When we use our sadness well we replace what we've lost and feel joy again.

When we use our fear well we protect ourselves and feel joy.

There's even a built in inducement toward joy called excitement.
We feel excited whenever we are "on our way" toward what we want!
Excitement mobilizes our energy to keep us on track toward joy.
We have much more joy in our lives now than in the past, but we hurry so much more too.

Overcoming our culture's insistence that we hurry our lives away
might be the most important thing we can do
to actually feel more of the joy in our lives!

IT ALL COMES DOWN TO THIS:

After each bite of food, after each trip to the bathroom (!),
after each "stroke" you get from the people who like you,
after every opportunity for joy,
stop everything for a moment
and NOTICE
that good feeling of joy!

Wishing you a joyful week

Illness, not health, is quickly becoming the norm in our world. Statistics show that childhood, chronic degenerative, autoimmune and malignant diseases are steadily increasing to epidemic proportions. So the question that everyone is asking is: "Why are we so sick?"

Most of society equates good health with proper nutrition, regular exercise and a moderate lifestyle.
At least that is what holistic medicine has been preaching over the years. But is that enough?

The True Health Pyramid

Level One The lowest level is the physical body. This level is the home of conventional medicine and many holistic modalities.

Level Two The second level is the electromagnetic body. It is the sum of all electrical and magnetic events caused by the activity of the nervous system.
On this level, acupuncture, neural therapy, magnetic therapy and reflexology are fitting.

Level Three The third level is the mental-emotional body. All humans are generally identical on the first two levels; however, it is at this third level where the uniqueness becomes evident.
Here, techniques such as psychotherapy, counseling and homeopathy may be helpful. The laws that govern this level are simple: nurture and love a child; keep it safe, nourished and warm and provide it with the opportunity to learn. Any violation of these needs has consequences leading to fairly predictable distortions of mind and body.

Level Four The fourth level is the dream body. This is the highest level at which an interaction between physician and patient is possible. The dream body is benefited by balancing the lower three levels. Family healing that develops respect and love between all family members is vital to success here.

Level Five The fifth level is the spirit body. The spirit body extends beyond infinity.
The spirit body may or may not be helped through prayer or meditation. One must turn inwards and upwards. Create time and space to be alone. The laws that are operative here are gradually revealed to us as we mature.

Achieving Balance
True health requires simultaneous work and balance on all five levels. Each level has its own order and its own laws. The lower three levels belong to the personal realm and the fourth and fifth levels to the transpersonal realm. Each higher level has an organizing influence on the lower levels. Phenomenon that we observe in the physical realm may occur simultaneously also on the other four levels. In fact, the physical body can manifest problems occurring on the other levels. However, you can have problems in the higher levels, which have not yet penetrated down to the lower levels.

Health and wellness is certainly more than just taking vitamins and eating good foods. One must ask, "Where in my life has homeostasis gone askew?" and then take steps to achieve balance. It is only after this that the question "Why am I sick?" can be answered

Wishing you a truly healing week!

Now is the time for a new beginning

Why are some people able to redeem themselves after a “fall” while others cannot?

In order to redeem yourself you will need to do all of the following:

1.        You take complete responsibility for it (without blaming yourself)

2.       You do not make excuses or blame others

3.       Be accountable for your action by admitting what you did was wrong, regardless of what led you to do it

4.       Make apologies to all those negatively affected by your actions. If you cannot do this in person, do this via meditation – in the collective conscious we are all aware of the others thoughts and feelings.

5.       Learn from your mistakes so you will not repeat them

6.       Seek therapy so you do not continue along the same path of destruction

7.       Make a commitment to yourself to work actively to ensure that you do not repeat the same mistakes

8.       Make a commitment to yourself to discover the truth of who you are (This may mean seeking therapy in order to clear up any unfinished business in your past) 9.       Doing good works, getting involved with causes and helping those around you (from the heart) are certainly ways to achieve forgiveness of self

10.    Make a commitment to yourself to live your life with honesty, integrity and compassion for others

Now is the time to move forward instead of looking back on “if only’s”

Wishing you a week of finding new beginnings

Thought for the week

clock August 3, 2008 16:15 by author Michele

A simple ten or fifteen minute breathing meditation can help you to overcome your stress and find some inner peace and balance.

Meditation can help us to understand our own mind. We can learn how to transform our mind from negative to positive, from disturbed to peaceful, from unhappy to happy. Overcoming negative minds and cultivating constructive thoughts is the purpose of the transforming meditations found in the Buddhist tradition. This is a profound spiritual practice you can enjoy throughout the day, not just while seated in meditation.

How to do a simple breathing mediation to quieten the mind and the body (use this at night when you can’t sleep – amazing!)

The first stage of meditation is to stop distractions and make our mind clearer and more lucid. This can be accomplished by practicing a simple breathing meditation. We choose a quiet place to meditate and sit in a comfortable position. We can sit in the traditional cross-legged posture or in any other position that is comfortable. If we wish, we can sit in a chair. The most important thing is to keep our back straight to prevent our mind from becoming sluggish or sleepy.

The first stage of meditation is to stop distractions and make our mind clearer and more lucid.

We sit with our eyes partially closed and turn our attention to our breathing. We breathe naturally, preferably through the nostrils, without attempting to control our breath, and we try to become aware of the sensation of the breath as it enters and leaves the nostrils. This sensation is our object of meditation. We should try to concentrate on it to the exclusion of everything else.

At first, our mind will be very busy, and we might even feel that the meditation is making our mind busier; but in reality we are just becoming more aware of how busy our mind actually is. There will be a great temptation to follow the different thoughts as they arise, but we should resist this and remain focused single-pointedly on the sensation of the breath. If we discover that our mind has wandered and is following our thoughts, we should immediately return it to the breath. We should repeat this as many times as necessary until the mind settles on the breath.

When the otherwise incessant flow of our distracting thoughts is calmed through concentrating on the breath, our mind becomes unusually lucid and clear. We should stay with this state of mental calm for a while.
Even though breathing meditation is only a preliminary stage of meditation, it can be quite powerful. We can see from this practice that it is possible to experience inner peace and contentment just by controlling the mind, without having to depend at all upon external conditions.

Wishing you a focused “breathing” week
